Cagliari are braced for offers for Nicolo Barella, who is reportedly targeted by Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Big things are expected of Nicolo Barella in Italy.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is one of those tipped to be a key figure in the future of an underachieving national team and he has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season for Cagliari in Serie A, scoring six goals for a side who could still be relegated going into the final day.

But regardless of whether Cagliari survive or not, it seems that Barella is on his way out.

Calciomercato reported earlier this year that Liverpool are interested in the Italy U21 ace, possibly as a replacement for the out-of-contract Emre Can, but were told it would take a bid of £45 million to prise him from the Sardinian outfit.

And the same publication is now claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a player renowned as much for his ability to win back possession with crunching tackles as his penchant for intelligent passes and goals from midfield.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen for more investment in his squad during the off-season and Barella would strengthen a midfield that could be weakened by the potential departures of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, according to the Mail.

Calciomercato, however, claims that Barella is keen to join Inter Milan this summer with Luciano Spaletti’s side big fans of the midfielder.

But Financial Fair Play means a move to the San Siro is easier said than done, which should give Tottenham and Liverpool renewed hope.
