Joachim Andersen’s name was splashed all over the gossip columns today as the race to sign the Sampdoria defender hots up.

According to The Independent, the talented Dane has emerged as the likeliest replacement for Toby Alderweireld at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs’ coveted Belgian centre-back will be available for just £25 million this summer thanks to a bargain release clause in his contract.

Manchester United have also been heavily linked with Andersen, who the MEN believes was recommended to them by the now departed fitness coach Stefano Rapetti.

But, as the MEN points out, United are set to delay a decision about the former FC Twente centre-half until the summer with their managerial situation uncertain – which could open the door for Tottenham to get their man.

After all, Calciomercato believes that the North London giants are set to go all out to bring Andersen to the Premier League this month while Manchester United sit back. It is understood that Tottenham are willing to make a bid of £35 million.

Sampdoria’s maverick president Massimo Ferrero is expected to play hardball but it is not known whether he would be in a position to turn down such a substantial offer, which would make Andersen the most expensive export in the club’s history.
