Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers have enjoyed great success signing players from Primeira Liga giants FC Porto.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Wolves’ Chinese owners will pay big, very big, in the transfer market when promotion to the Premier League is secured.
Wolves are one of the most ambitious sides in European football right now and want to take England’s top flight by storm like they have in the Championship, where they have blown their rivals out the water with some truly phenomenal signings.
Many of those, including Ruben Neves (below) and Willy Boly and even manager Nuno Espirito Santo, were at FC Porto last season.
So you can imagine that Wolves, led by Iberian super-agent Jorge Mendes, will be returning to the Dragao this summer in search of more potential signings.
And though Moussa Marega is not a Mendes client like the aforementioned quartet, his tally of 20 goals in 22 league games for Porto should put him right in Wolves’ sights with a top drawer centre-forward likely to be the summer priority.
Marega is a man in demand right now and, according to FootMercato, Tottenham made an enquiry in January only to be informed of a £35 million release clause in the 26-year-old’s contract.
Obviously Spurs felt that fee was a little steep as they did not make an official bid, but if Wolves’ owners are as ambitious as they claim to be, a £35 million move for Marega might not be out of their reach once Premier League football is guaranteed at Molineux next season.
