Tottenham pairing Eriksen with £19.5m Quintero would have fans drooling

Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are reportedly competing to bring Colombia’s World Cup star Juan Quintero to the Premier League or La Liga.

Juan Quintero has arguably been the most impressive breakout star of the World Cup so far.

Colombia’s diminutive midfielder has shone in the yellow and blue of his country, scoring a wonderfully inventive free-kick in the 2-1 defeat to Japan before turning on the style once again with a glorious assist for Radamel Falcao as Jose Pekerman’s free-flowing side thrashed Poland 3-0.

As a result, a player who was forced to leave Porto on loan for River Plate in January in order to get some minutes under his belt ahead of the Russian showpiece has now found himself on the shopping list of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Argentinian publication Ole is reporting that Real Madrid want to sign Quintero, who is expected to sign for River Plate permanently and have a £19.5 million release clause included in his contract. As do Tottenham Hotspur.

The prospect of seeing Quintero line up alongside Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and co should get Spurs fans drooling. Blessed with a wonderful weight of pass, typical South American flair and the vision to see through legs like tracing paper makes Quintero a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s expansive style.

And just imagine the partnership he could create with Eriksen. Both are immensely gifted yet hard-working play-makers and Quintero would be a massive upgrade on the likes of Erik Lamela or Moussa Sissoko in that right-sided attacking midfield position that has become something of a problem in recent months.

Quintero and Eriksen could make Tottenham’s attack among the sharpest in world football. Purists rejoice.
