Tottenham Hotspur have had difficulties in midfield in some high-profile games.

Mauricio Pochettino has assembled an impressive squad at Tottenham Hotspur but there have been times, especially during the recent high-profile defeats away to Manchester United and Arsenal, when they have lacked a commanding presence in midfield.

With Eric Dier currently having to fill in at centre-back, Tottenham’s midfield can find it difficult at times to provide the requisite protection to their defence.

However, the solution to the problem may already be at Tottenham’s disposal, with Victor Wanyama hoping to return from a knee injury soon.

Wanyama hasn’t played since the defeat to Chelsea in August and, although they have had some impressive results in the ensuing period, Tottenham have certainly missed him.

When fully sharp, Wanyama is capable of breaking up play effectively, while he is also a neat passer of the ball and can help to initiate attacks.

Last season Wanyama produced some excellent performances for Tottenham and, although he will inevitably require some time to regain match fitness, the Kenyan is capable of making a major impact for Pochettino’s side, to the extent where the club don’t need to look to sign a new defensive-midfielder.
