Shayon Harrison has scored one goal for Melbourne City since joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King believes Shayon Harrison is at the perfect club in Melbourne City after the young forward’s impressive start to life in Australia, while speaking to the A League’s official website.

Harrison has long been seen as one of the most exciting talents in Spurs’ academy but, at the age of 21, he appeared to be in danger of missing the boat in North London.

So a loan move Down Under appeared to be a risk but a necessary one.

So far, however, the London-born forward has caught the eye in Australia, scoring his first A League goal as Melbourne City beat Sydney FC 2-0 away from home in March.

And King believes that Harrison should return to Spurs a much better player.

“Shayon is a good lad and when we send players away we look for a good fit for them. We look into the identity of the club and Melbourne obviously suited Shayon. They gave him an opportunity to play at first-team level and gain the experience that’s needed,” said King.

“Hopefully when he comes back to Tottenham he can push on from there.”

Speaking to the Daily Football Show back in February, Harrison admitted that moving to Australia was a ‘no brainer’ with the Englishman struggling to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans in North London.

And he will be hoping that Tottenham’s manager will be keeping an eye on his progress as he looks to follow in the footsteps of another late bloomer – Harry Kane.
