Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to beat Premier League giants Spurs and La Liga champions Real Madrid to Rafa Mir.

Unlike Ruben Neves, Leo Bonatini and Diego Jota, Rafa Mir would probably have to bide his time before making an impact at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The striker, who Super Deporte claim is set to move to Molineux for £1.5 million from Valencia, is just 20 and has made only a smattering of cameo appearances for Los Che’s first-team in the last few years.

But this does not mean that Mir is not a hugely exciting signing; arguably even the most eye-catching arrival in the Black Country since Jorge Mendes and Fosun International arrived in 2016 to turn Wolves into by far the best team in the second tier.

Because the report adds that Mir, who has 15 goals in 19 games for Valencia’s B team this season, had looked set to put pen to paper at Real Madrid.

And while the likes of Neves and Jota had been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs before pulling on the Old Gold, the fact that Wolves have snatched one of Spain’s most talented youngsters from under the noses of the current Champions League holders represents a massive statement of intent.

Madrid, however, were not the only European giant hoping to sign Mir. Super Deporte claimed earlier in the year that Tottenham Hotspur and Scottish champions Celtic were also big fans.

The prospect of working with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has turned countless young talents into world-beaters, should appeal to any fresh-faced prodigy. But Wolves, as it stands, are arguably the strongest they have ever been in the transfer market.

Mir will reunite with his former Valencia manager Nuno, who was sacked by Valencia just five days after giving the one-time Barcelona youngster his senior debut in a 2015 Champions League clash with Zenit.
