The Burnley striker has an impressive strike rate this season but is he really good enough for Tottenham Hotspur?

If Mauricio Pochettino expected his summer signings to take Tottenham Hotspur to the next level, perhaps inspiring a late surge into the Champions League or a genuine tilt at the top flight title, the below-par form of Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen, coupled with the ongoing anonymity of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, may have knocked the fans’ confidence in their manager’s transfer market nous.
Therefore, claims in The Express that The Argentine has identified Burnley striker Andre Gray as his primary summer target were bound to elicit a somewhat divided reaction.
After all, with Janssen still yet to score a goal from open play in Spurs colours, it is clear that an alternative to Harry Kane is a must. And Gray, a speedy centre-forward renowned for his ability to race in behind high defensive lines, would add a very different kind of attacking threat to Tottenham’s armoury.
With the exception of Heung Min-Son, Spurs lack a forward with natural pace.
On the flip side, however, Gray has played just one season in the top flight and, although he has eight goals to his game, he has hit form in fits and bursts rather than over a sustained period.
The 25-year-old was playing non-league football four seasons ago and it is almost impossible to predict whether he could hit the heights required for a club of Spurs’ stature.

Nonetheless, a number of Tottenham fans see Gray as a risk worth taking.
