While many of Spurs’ attackers have struggled for form and fitness this season, Crystal Palace’s Zaha has taken his game to another level.
As Moussa Sissoko continues to rot away at the back of Mauricio Pochettino’s mind, and his dugout, Spurs fans can be forgiven for gazing a few miles south and wondering what might have been.
Alan Pardew was effusive in his praise afterwards, and with good reason. Because, without the virtuoso performance of Wilfried Zaha, his finest display in the Premier League, Crystal Palace would be one point closer to the bottom three. Not only did the winger once again display the mesmeric skill and trickery that has long been his trademark, he also showcased the end product fans and neutrals have been crying out for.
After all, when you win a penalty, score one of the goals of the season and create the equaliser all within the space of 90 short minutes, it seems rather churlish to question someone’s productivity.
The 24-year-old now has three strikes and six assists this season, meaning he has contributed to three times as many goals already as he had during the whole of the previous campaign.
Consequently, Spurs succession of summer bids, peaking at £21 million according to The Guardian, don’t seem quite so questionable now.
