Spurs wanted Kevin Gameiro from Atletico Madrid in the summer – but signed Fernando Llorente from Swansea City instead.

How Fernando Llorente fits in at Tottenham Hotspur is anyone’s guess. A £12 million signing from Swansea City on transfer deadline day, per The Mail, the 32-year-old targetman was prolific in a Swansea City who played to his considerable strengths via accurate set-piece delivery and pinpoint crosses from out wide.
Spurs, however, embody a very different style of player revolving around incisive movement, quick passing and a high-tempo. Therefore, it will be intriguing to see whether the 6ft 4ins veteran can find his feet although an inauspicious start suggests it may take some time to adapt.
Therefore, with reports in The Mirror that Atletico Madrid may be forced to sell Kevin Gameiro to balance the books following the return of Diego Costa, Spurs may face a dilemma.

The Sun reported in May that Spurs wanted the 30-year-old Frenchman to partner Harry Kane in attack but Llorente is a very different style of striker. In fact, Gameiro appears a more natural fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s gameplan, such is his rapid pace, electric movement and counter attacking threat.
The Mirror adds that Everton, for whom January can’t come around quick enough, are hoping to bring Gameiro to England in January to replace the void created by the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

However, do Spurs revive their interest or do they simply stick with what they have? Perhaps the form of Llorente between now and the winter will make up Pochettino’s mind.
