Manchester United have scouted Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney extensively while Tottenham Hotspur are interested, too.

Celtic have got used to the fact that their star man are likely to leave as soon as they outgrow the rather small Scottish football pond. However, while the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper were unable to resist the allure of the Premier League, you sense the story of Kieran Tierney will follow a slightly different narrative.

The talented left-back is a born-and-bred Celtic fanatic who came through the clubs ranks to become one of the first names on their team-sheet. It truly is daydream stuff.

Tierney told the Scottish Sun in May that he had no regrets about snubbing a big-money move south of the border in the summer of 2016 and his only focus was on earning a new deal at Celtic. In June last year, the 20-year-old inked a five-year contract.

Although that has not stopped the Premier League’s biggest and best from making their interest clear. The Daily Record reports that a Manchester United side who have rotated their left-backs frequently since Jose Mourinho took over sent a scout to watch Tierney in action during Wednesday’s Betfred Cup victory over Dundee.

It is not the first time United have watched the Isle of Man-born youngster while Tottenham Hotspur are also reported to be interested. And while links with United threaten to test Tiereny’s loyalty to the hilt, Spurs may also be a hugely tempting destination for young players hoping to fulfil their potential.

There is a very real chance, after all, that Spurs may have to prepare for life without the currently injured Danny Rose, who admitted to The Sun he would be tempted by the prospect of a return to his northern roots not to mention a big-money contract.

Tierney, however, has the potential to be even better and, at 20, is light years ahead of where Rose was at the same age.

Nonetheless, taking Tierney from Celtic is easier said than done.
