Ross McCormack is yet to win over the Aston Villa supporters and this will not have helped his cause.

While he has not quite hit the heights of Jolean ‘phone was in my pocket’ Lescott, Ross McCormack’s claims that he could not attend training because his gates were stuck, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, did not go down too well with a club whose rapid decline owed much to a lack of professionalism both on and off the pitch.

The Birmingham Mail adds that McCormack, the marquee summer signing who has averaged £4 million per goal in Villa colours, had failed to attend training on a number of occasions, leading manager Steve Bruce to omit him from the squad for Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Preston North End.

Bruce, understandably, was furious.

“There’s been too much indiscipline at this club for too long and I won’t put up with it,” he said, as reported by the same publication.

And, if his disappointing goal record was enough to intensify speculation that Villa could look to cash in on the Scottish striker in January, this latest bout of disorder at a club that has suffered frequently at the hands of disinterested players during the last few seasons has only cast McCormack’s future into further doubt.

While owner Tony Xia, ever the optimist, issued a rousing rallying call to his summer signing on Twitter, the fans’ response was rather less upbeat.
