West Bromwich Albion have been long-time admirers of Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor.

Tony Pulis has suggested that he will look to address the average age of his West Brom squad during the summer transfer window, making it clear, as reported by the Express and Star, what sort of age bracket the majority of the players on his radar will fit into.

“We’ve got four or five young players who hopefully will get a chance over the four or five games to play some time,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“But over that, there’s not the number of 20-year-olds or early 20s, 23s and 24s that you’d want at the football club.

“We’ve got to try to find players now of that age to fill the squad and players of that ability to improve the group.”

Pulis’ desire to sign players who are aged between 20 and 24 would certainly suggest that the Baggies will do everything they can to win the race for long-time target, Leeds defender Charlie Taylor.

Taylor is out of contract at Elland Road this summer, and the transfer request he submitted one year ago (via Guardian) certainly suggests that he has no plans to stick around.

The apparent lack of speculation surrounding Taylor since the January window perhaps hinted that he may have been waiting to see whether Garry Monk’s men went on to secure promotion to the Premier League before making a final decision, but with the Whites missing out on the play-off places, it would surprise few if he is one of the players who does leave.

And it would also hardly be a surprise if West Brom were one of the sides hoping to bag his signature. The Guardian reported in January that they had made a £7 million bid, and left-back has certainly been a problematic area for the Baggies over the course of the last couple of seasons.

And with Pulis now confirming that players in their early 20’s will be of particular interest to him, the talented 23-year-old is surely ticking all of the boxes for the Baggies, and thus, it would certainly not be a shock if West Brom did all they could to try and tempt Taylor to the Hawthorns.
