West Ham United are 15th in the Premier League table and Manuel Pellegrini’s side are yet to be at their best on a consistent basis.
How do you judge Manuel Pellegrini’s time in charge of West Ham United so far?
Four defeats in a row to start the season had Hammers fans fearing another false dawn but an impressive run of results, including a win against Manchester United before the intentional break, certainly changed the mood at the London Stadium.
The limp 1-0 defeat away at Brighton last time out certainly stunted West Ham’s momentum, however. But, speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (17 October, 12pm), club legend Tony Cottee appears to be leaning in favour of the 64-year-old Pellegrini.
“I had my doubts after four games I was disappointed David Moyes didn’t get the chance,” Cottee said.
“Pellegrini has to be given time. He’s certainly been given money.
“He’s 64 so he’s not going to take the club for the next 10 or 15 years but for the immediate future he’s probably the right man.”
West Ham are currently 15th in the embryonic Premier League table and have won just two of eight games so far.
But, after spending over £100 million on new talent in a hectic transfer window, Cottee justifiably argues that this Hammers side should be pushing for the coveted ‘best of the rest’ spot in seventh that would bring European football back to the London Stadium.
“There’s a massive gap to the top six. You could argue that Wolves are going to have a go (to finish seventh), they’ve got some top players.
“West Ham have to be in the top 10, between seven and 10 and then you try and push on gradually.”
