West Ham United have lost all four of the Premier League games Jack Wilshere has started under Manuel Pellegrini.

West Ham United’s decision to sign Jack Wilshere on a free transfer this summer is starting to come under fire.

According to the Times, co-owner David Sullivan was so concerned about the former Arsenal midfielder’s fitness issues that he only wanted to sign him on a one-year deal. But, at the insistence of Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos, West Ham relented and offered Wilshere a three-year contract instead.

Since then, the Hammers have lost all four of the Premier League games that Wilshere has started. And perhaps the most damning indictment is that Pellegrini’s side have looked far better since the England international has been absent through injury, with Pedro Obiang and Declan Rice coming into the midfield.

Speaking to the Times, Tony Cascarino has now questioned why West Ham signed Wilshire in the first place.

“I was surprised when West Ham signed Jack Wilshere. His injury record is so poor, and even though he was on a free transfer I would be surprised if many other clubs were in for him. It seemed to be a vanity signing and I can’t believe they gave him a three-year deal,” said the former Chelsea striker.

“He’s got excellent technical ability but he looks increasingly unsuited to the modern-day game.”

Pellegrini’s side have found form in Wilshere’s absence, beating Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park before earning a well-deserved goalless draw at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

Does Wilshere have a chance of forcing his way back into the starting XI?
