Is reported Wolves target Rodrigo Battaglia a better prospect than Neves?

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly want to take advantage of Sporting Lisbon’s crisis with Rodrigo Battaglia heading to the Premier League.

Sporting Lisbon are going through a crisis but clubs from the Premier League are not feeling particularly charitable.

According to TEAMtalk, a number of Sporting’s key players are keen to quit the Estadio Jose Alvalade this summer after a series of unseemly events, namely a masked mob attacking them at their own training ground and a high-profile row with outspoken president Bruno de Carvalho.

Some have moved to even terminate their contracts, which would allow them to move for free, with TEAMtalk claiming that Rui Patricio, Ryan Gauld, William Carvalho, Bas Dost and Carlos Mane could all be on their way to England.

But it is Rodrigo Battaglia who should have Wolves fans interested. Because the report adds that they, along with Southampton and West Ham, are keen on Sporting’s Argentine star. And he could perhaps be the first midfielder linked with Wolves this summer who is more talented than Ruben Neves.

Battaglia is a fantastic talent, an all-round midfielder renowned his dribbling ability, positional intelligence and fantastic set pieces. Even if he has not started every game, the former Braga talisman has been one of Sporting’s standout performers and, according to O Jogo, is valued at around £26 million – £10 million more than Wolves paid Porto for record signing Neves last summer.

The prospect of Neves and Battaglia in central midfield at Molineux should have fans pinching themselves, especially if the latter arrives for free.
