Championship table-toppers Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Premier League bench-warmer Cavaleiro from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With less than a week remaining in the January transfer window, Leeds United are facing a race against time if they want to replace Samu Saiz.
The Spanish schemer brought an end to 18 months at Elland Road in December, returning to his homeland with Getafe. And Leeds have been linked with a number of attackers since, from Daniel James to Ze Luis, with the Sun throwing a new name into the frame on Friday: Ivan Cavaleiro.
With just five Premier League starts to his name this season, it is understood that Leeds are hoping to snap up the £7 million Wolverhampton Wanderers forward on loan for the rest of the season.
And while Saiz tended to blow hot and cold, moments of sheer, Spanish class flanked by long spells of anonymity, Cavaleiro’s impact could be very different.
He remains something of a raw talent at the age of 25, but he is blessed with tremendous work rate while combining technical ability with real physical attributes.
Cavaleiro’s end product is far more impressive than the rather underwhelming numbers posted by Saiz, too. The former Monaco man contributed nine goals and 12 assists as Wolves won the Championship and he has three goals in his five Premier League starts too.
If Leeds can get the deal done, they will be replacing an inconsistent, often infuriating player with a forward who could breathe fresh life into a stuttering attack.
