Ryan Hardie has made an excellent start to life on loan at Livingston from Rangers, while Eduardo Herrera continues to flop at Ibrox.

Rangers fans would have been hoping that Ryan Hardie would finally get his chance in the first-team when academy boss Graeme Murty was handed the manager’s job until the end of this season.

Instead, however, the homegrown starlet will have to wait longer still to get his opportunity at Ibrox. Because Hardie has been loaned out to second division side Livingston until the end of the season, although he is seizing his chance away from Ibrox in style.

Hardie has two goals in his last two games for the club and has shown signs of a budding partnership with fellow Gers youngster Jordan Thompson.

And while regular first-team football, albeit in the division below, should prove beneficial to the 20-year-old, there is an argument to be made that he was more worthy of a role in Rangers’ senior squad than Eduardo Herrera.

After all, supporters appear to have lost any remaining faith in the 29-year-old Mexican after his ineffective 20 minute cameo against highland side Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup a week ago. Altogether, Herrera has just two goals since moving to Rangers from Pumas UNAM for £1.5 million and is looking increasingly like a lost cause.

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers celebrates after he scores his teams third goal during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

As reported by the Daily Record, Rangers were considering selling Herrera in January to get the high-earning flop off the wage bill. But he remains at Ibrox, despite falling to third in the pecking order after the arrival of Jason Cummings from Nottingham Forest.

It appears that Herrera has no future in Scottish football. And if Hardie continues his excellent start to life at Livingston, there may be a good chance the youngster replaces the flop in Rangers’ first-team in the near future.
