Scottish Premiership champions Celtic accepted just £2million from Fulham for Johansen, who is now being linked with Serie A side.

Reports that AC Milan are interested in signing two Premier League bench-warmers from Southampton and Fulham perhaps highlights just how far these European giants have fallen.

After being linked with the goal-shy Manolo Gabbiadini, Sky Sports is reporting that Milan are hoping to sign the seldom-seen Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen.

The Norwegian, who is out of contract in the summer, has started just four Premier League games with Claudio Ranieri’s side still stuck in the relegation zone.

And reports linking Johansen with a shock move to the San Siro are likely to raise eyebrows in Glasgow, as well as West London.

After all, Celtic sold the mercurial midfielder for just £2 million in the summer of 2016 (The Mail), bringing an end to two-and-a-half successful seasons at Parkhead.

Johansen had established himself as a firm fans’ favourite at Celtic for his intelligent passing and ability to float through defensive lines, not to mention his role in three Scottish Premiership title wins.

Although it is fair to say Celtic won’t have been expecting the 46-cap international to be strutting his stuff in the red and white of AC Milan when they accepted Fulham’s £2 million offer.
