Jermain Defoe is a hero at Sunderland and he is currently struggling for Premier League chances at Bournemouth.

The prospect of Jermain Defoe returning to Sunderland in January looks very unlikely.
The Black Cats might not be in the same dire financial situation they found themselves in during the end of Ellis Short’s miserable tenure. But Defoe would have to take a massive cut on the £65,000-a-week wages he currently earns at Bournemouth, according to the Sun.
At the age of 36, is one of the most natural finishers in Premier League history really going to spend the autumn of a stellar career in the third tier of English football? Probably not.
But that has not stopped the fans from dreaming.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Sunderland’s ambitious owner Stewart Donald has admitted that he tried to lure Defoe back to the Stadium of Light in the summer with the veteran falling out of favour at Bournemouth.
Defoe has played just 14 minutes of Premier League football all season for Bournemouth, however, so do not rule out a January exit from the South Coast.
Just imagine how lethal Defoe, who scored 15 goals in 37 games in his final season in Sunderland, would be in League One.
