Cenk Tosun moved to the Premier League and Everton in January from Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas.
Cenk Tosun arrived at Everton in the January transfer window as one of the most in-form strikers anywhere in Europe.
The Turkish international was scoring goals at a remarkable rate for Besiktas, inspiring the Istanbul club to the Super Lig title in 2016 and 2017. And four goals in six Champions League group stage games in the first half of last season suggested that Tosun was ready to make the step up to a major European league.
Unfortunately for Everton, however, goals have been much harder to come by in England. Since his £27 million move, Tosun has scored just six times in 22 Premier League matches with his future at Goodison Park coming under question as a result.
According to the Mail, Besiktas are ‘very hopeful’ of bringing Tosun back to Turkey one year after he left. Senol Gunes’ men are three points adrift of Galatasaray right now and the 27-year-old’s return could spark another title challenge.
Turkish Football claimed earlier in the week, however, that Tosun had no interest in giving up on his Everton career after just 12 months.
With the out-of-favour Oumar Niasse and the less-than-prolific Dominic Calvert-Lewin the only other natural centre-forwards in Everton’s squad, it would be a surprise if Marco Silva moved to push Tosun out the door.
