Joe Mason is clearly not in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Premier League plans but could he return to Plymouth Argyle after a spell at Portsmouth?
Joe Mason’s time at Wolverhampton Wanderers has been up for a while.
A £3 million signing from Cardiff City three years ago (TEAMtalk), the forward had no idea that Chinese billionaires Fosun International would complete their takeover of the Molineux club just months later.
Somewhat inevitably, Mason quickly fell down the pecking order as a flurry of high-profile signings arrived in the Black Country. And while Wolves are flying high in the Premier League, the 27-year-old has just returned from a loan spell at League One Portsmouth.
Now, Mason is obviously very unlikely to force his way into Nuno’s plans and some have questioned whether an emotional return to Plymouth Argyle could be on the cards, nine years after he left Home Park.
Speaking to Plymouth Live, Argyle boss Derek Adams has admitted that he would be keen to snap Mason up if the opportunity arose.
“We have spoken to Wolves in the past about him before he went to Portsmouth. Financially, it was difficult at that moment in time,” said the Scot.
“He hasn’t played at all for Portsmouth. We do monitor the situation but he does have other options to look to, which he has to at that stage in his career.”
Clearly, leaving Wolves would be the best move for all parties with the former Republic of Ireland U21 international having failed to make a single appearance for the club since Nuno took over almost two years ago.
But whether a return to Plymouth is possible remains to be seen.
