League One Sunderland are still trying to sign Wigan Athletic’s Championship striker Will Grigg and will reportedly make a fifth bid soon.
Sunderland’s hopes of signing Will Grigg from Wigan Athletic might have just received a boost from an unlikely source.
According to the Chronicle, Sunderland have made the Northern Ireland international their top target during the January transfer window, and his arrival is more important than ever now with top scorer Josh Maja nearing a £3.5 million move to Bordeaux.
The report adds that the Black Cats are set to make a fifth bid in an attempt to bring Grigg to the Stadium of Light before next week’s deadline.
And, if the 27-year-old does arrive, Sunderland might just have their local rivals Middlesbrough to thank.
According to TEAMtalk, Boro have decided to re-call highly-rated striker George Miller from his impressive loan spell at Bradford City and will sell him on this month.
It is understood that Wigan are interested and the 20-year-old could help fill the void should Grigg make his desire to leave clear. It is claimed that Boro would not stop in Miller’s way with a move to Lancashire on the cards.
Considering that Grigg has averaged over 20 goals in his last four games at League One level, he could be the perfect man to replace Maja at Sunderland.
