Lewis Morgan left Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in January to sign on loan for League One challengers Sunderland.

Lewis Morgan has pointed out one similarity between Celtic and Sunderland in quotes reported by the Chronicle – the pressure and expectation to succeed.

The Scotland international joined Sunderland on loan from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in the January transfer window, reuniting with his former St Mirren boss Jack Ross at the Stadium of Light.

So far, however, Morgan has shown few signs of replicating the form that saw him score 18 times for St Mirren in their Scottish Championship winning campaign of 2017/18.

However, the winger produced arguably his best performance in Sunderland colours during Saturday’s 2-0 League One victory against Plymouth Argyle.

While Celtic and Sunderland are in very different situations right now – the former hoping to secure an unprecedented ‘treble treble’ while Sunderland are fighting to escape the third tier of English football – Morgan says the two clubs share a few distinct similarities.

“It’s similar to Celtic with the demands on you – and rightly so,” he said.

“With a club this size, the only thing on our minds is getting back up the divisions and trying to win trophies along the way.

“That was a big draw for me when I came down here – trying to win this cup and then trying to win another title.”

Morgan arrived at Celtic during Brendan Rodgers’ time in charge but, with the Northern Irishman having since left for Leicester City, it seems his future is up in the air.

It remains to be seen whether Neil Lennon, or whoever is hired as Celtic’s next permanent manager, will include Morgan in his first-team plans next season.
