Marcelo Bielsa reportedly wanted to bring PSG flop Jese Rodriguez to the Championship and Leeds United before he returned to La Liga with Real Betis.
Leeds United may just have a second chance to sign Jese Rodriguez this summer, although whether they still want him is another matter entirely.
According to El Desmarques, Marcelo Bielsa’s side fought tooth and nail right until the end of the transfer window to sign Jese during the January transfer window. Yet they were left disappointed when the PSG forward opted to join Real Betis on loan instead.
A former Spain U21 international who was tipped for very big things when he swapped Real Madrid for the Ligue 1 champions three years ago for a fee of £21 million (Marca), Jese certainly needed a fresh start after failing to make his mark at the Parc des Princes and suffering relegation on loan at Stoke City last season.
But his time at Betis, like at Stoke, has been particularly forgettable. The 26-year-old has scored just once in 11 La Liga games.
And it will come as no surprise to avid La Liga viewers that Betis have no intention of taking up their option to sign Jese permanently, according to Marca, particularly after he missed chance after chance in last month’s derby defeat to Sevilla.
Whether Leeds will return to the table, however, remains to be seen. PSG will be desperate to sell this summer and there is no doubting Jese’s natural talent.
