James Collins is a free agent after being let go by Premier League West Ham – but could he be an option for Championship side Leeds United?

West Ham United might not have felt the need to inform James Collins face to face that he would be released after 12 years of loyal service, but the veteran centre-back would be welcomed with open arms by Leeds United fans as he embarks on a pursuit of a new club.
The veteran defender was in tears during the final game of the Premier League season with his contract due to expire. And The Sun claims that he was informed that he would not be handed a new deal via email.

Understandably, the West Ham fans are furious about the way one of their most consistent and honest players has been treated. Though supporters of Leeds are seeing this as an opportunity.
Leeds, after all, looking for a marquee addition at centre-half this summer, and a player with Collins’ experience and leadership could come in very handy for Paul Heckingbottom’s youthful and inconsistent squad.

And while Collins is eight years older and hardly a long-term solution, Leeds have discovered with the signings of Rob Green and Pablo Hernandez that age isn’t always a big issue. In the meantime, Leeds fans are keen for the club to sign the Ginger Pele:
