Glenn Middleton looks very promising at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.
There has been a buzz around Glenn Middleton ever since he arrived at Rangers from Norwich City in January. And the 18-year-old attacker is starting to justify that hype.
Steven Gerrard has started to give Middleton the odd run-out for the Rangers first-team in recent weeks and the teenager has seized his chance in style. A few days after scoring his first goal for the Glasgow giants in the weekend’s 4-0 thrashing of Dundee, Middleton impressed off the bench once again in the 2-2 Europa League draw away at Villarreal on Thursday.
Gerrard obviously felt the Scotland U21 international could make a difference against quality opposition, introducing Middleton as soon as Rangers went 2-1 down away at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
And the Gers boss has admitted that he is glad he is watching Middleton from the dugout rather than playing against him.
“Glenn is doing great, he’s hungry and he wants to learn. If I was a full-back I wouldn’t want to play against him. If he becomes an expert out of position he will be a wonderful player,” Gerrard said in quotes reported on the club’s official Twitter account.
Middleton is certainly a raw talent and has a lot to learn. He fired wastefully into the side netting on Thursday, minutes after Kyle Lafferty had drawn Rangers level.
But do not be surprised if the one-time Northampton Town youngster becomes a regular starter for Rangers in the near future.
