After scoring nine Premier League goals for Newcastle United, is West Brom loanee Salomon Rondon heading to Everton?

For the best part of two years, Everton have been crying out for an old-school centre-forward with the presence and goalscoring nous to fill the void left by the departure of Romelu Lukaku in 2017.

But is Salomon Rondon really the man they need?

According to the Daily Star, Everton are circling and keen to bring the Venezuelan international to Goodison Park at the end of the season once his loan spell at Newcastle United comes to an end.

Parent club West Bromwich Albion would demand £16 million for a striker who will turn 30 later this year. Rondon’s age appears to be a concern for some supporters and, while he has impressed at Newcastle, a record of 33 goals in 133 Premier League appearances is far from outstanding.

But maybe there is more to this former Malaga and Zenit St Petersburg striker than meets the eye. Rondon can be a real nuisance on his day and would be a more natural fit at centre-forward than Richarlison. He would surely be an upgrade on the struggling Cenk Tosun, too.

With the creativity of Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lucas Digne around him, maybe Everton is the club that can get the best out of a player who famously scored a hat-trick of headers against Swansea in 2016.

The only other Premier League striker to achieve that feat? Everton legend Duncan Ferguson.
