Nottingham Forest are trying to sign a proven Championship striker in Aston Villa loanee Lewis Grabban but where are Leeds United?

Jerry Mbakogu of Carpi FC disappointed for the defeat at the end of the Serie A match between Carpi FC and SS Lazio at Alberto Braglia Stadium on May 8, 2016 in Modena, Italy.

It looks like Jerry Mbakogu will be a Leeds United player next season.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Leeds have finalised a £3 million deal to bring the Carpi striker to Elland Road on a four-year deal after months of speculation. Understandably, however, Leeds fans are not too thrilled about the arrival of a striker who scored just six times in Serie B this season.

Without wanting to write Mbakogu off too early, this has all the makings of another imported flop brought in by the much-maligned director of football Victor Orta.

And with the likes of Lewis Grabban available for not too much more this summer, Leeds fans are understandably wondering why they are once again failing to act with a proven Championship goal-scorer on the market.

According to the Sun (13 May, page 63), Nottingham Forest are keen to sign the Bournemouth striker this summer after a stellar campaign in which he netted 20 times on loan at Sunderland and Aston Villa, firing the latter into the play-offs.

Why a Leeds side lacking a reliable goal-scorer did not attempt to sign Grabban in January should be questioned. And if the Whites once again fail to throw their hat into the ring, supporters would be forgiven for asking just what Orta is thinking.
