Everton are reportedly facing competition for Lyon’s Ligue 1 star Tanguy Ndombele.
With some of Europe’s biggest clubs reprotedly circling around Tanguy Ndombele, it seemed that Everton’s chances had died a while ago. But perhaps not.
According to the Liverpool Echo in November, the Toffees have been running the rule over the France international for some time and sent chief scout Martyn Glover to watch one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders in action.
The report added that Lyon wanted £40 million for Ndombele – a fee that appeared to put him within Everton’s reach.
But what chance did Marcel Brands and co really have with Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham also interested, according to the Sun. Well, do not rule Everton out just yet. They could have one key advantage, after all.
According to Buzzsport, Lyon want to raid the Toffees for Idrissa Gana Gueye and Everton are allegedly willing to sell in the summer for a fee in excess of £18 million, despite refusing to let him join PSG in January.
Gueye appears to be a potential replacement for Ndombele and Everton could do worse than to enquire about whether a cash-plus-player deal is a possibility.
Ndombele can probably aim higher than a club sitting 11th in the Premier League but Goodison Park could be a fine stepping stone on the way to one of Europe’s real giants.
