Will Scott Brown stay at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic beyond this season? A-League outfit Western Melbourne are reportedly interested.

The future of Celtic skipper Scott Brown has taken another twist on Friday.

It is no secret that the long-serving captain is out of contract at the end of the season and Brown appears to be at a crossroads, torn between staying at Parkhead and embarking upon a money-spinning move across the globe.

Western Melbourne have identified the 33-year-old as a potential marquee signing in 2019, as reported by the Mail back in October. And the newly-formed outfit’s hopes of luring Brown Down Under were handed a major boost this week when it was announced that they would be added to an expanded A-League next season.

Now, the Daily Record are reporting that Western Melbourne are set to offer Brown a three-year contract with a hefty wage to boot.

So the ball is now in Celtic’s court.

If they want to extend Brown’s 12-year stay at Parkhead, they may have to match the three-year deal put on the table by the A-League newcomers.

Although it remains to be seen whether they are willing to offer the ageing talisman such a long stay in Glasgow. Last year, Celtic decided to hand Brown only a one-year contract extension, after all, and a three-year deal would keep Brown in green and white until he is 37.

With Callum McGregor showing in recent weeks that he is ready and waiting to replace the long-serving Scot, it perhaps makes little sense to tie him down for so long.
