Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic battered St Johnstone 5-0 in the Scottish Cup on Sunday thanks to a Scott Sinclair hat-trick.

Tommy Wright has paid tribute to Celtic after his St Johnstone side were battered by a Scott Sinclair-inspired Hoops in the Scottish Cup on Sunday, speaking to the Courier.

For the third time in the last four games, Celtic and St Johnstone went head-to-head and Brendan Rodgers’ side reigned supreme again after two comfortable Scottish Premiership victories.

The Glasgow giants ran riot at Parkhead, Sinclair scoring a hat-trick while Scott Brown and James Forrest were also on target in a 5-0 win.

In short, Celtic have been in unstoppable form since their 1-0 defeat, and horror-show performance, in December’s Old Firm derby clash against Rangers. They have won their last seven games in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and conceding none.

And Wright has admitted that there is no shame in being beaten by a Celtic side in such outstanding form.

Tommy Wright, Manager of St Johnstone looks on prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park on February 3, 2019 in Perth, United Kingdom.

“We were beaten by a far better side. The players can’t get too disheartened because they have been beaten by a far better team the three times we have played them,” said the experienced Wright.

“There is no disgrace in getting beaten by a team that, at the minute, are wiping the floor with everybody.”

Celtic went into 2019 wondering about their status as the top dogs in Scottish football in the aftermath of that dismal defeat at Ibrox.

But, revitalised by the January additions of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke on loan from West Brom and PSG, Celtic suddenly look a fearsome opponent in the final third again, as St Johnstone have found out in recent weeks.
