Derby County’s play-off hopes suffered another blow as Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 1-0 by Millwall in Wednesday’s Championship clash.

Tom Huddlestone has admitted that supporters are entitled to make their feelings known after Derby County were booed off following their home defeat to Millwall on Wednesday night, as reported by Derbyshire Live.

Frank Lampard’s side suffered another blow to their play-off hopes in midweek, Jed Wallace’s second-half goal sealing a 1-0 loss against the Lions at Pride Park.

It was a poor game overall and arguably Derby’s worst since former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard started his managerial career in the East Midlands. And the supporters voiced their frustration at full time, Derby’s players trudging off to a number of audible boos.

“Obviously the fans pay good money to come and watch, and they are entitled to their opinion,” said Huddlestone, who started in the centre of midfield against Milwall.

2019 has been a year to forget so far for Derby, who have won just two of their seven Championship games to drop out of the play-off places.

There has been plenty of criticism aimed towards Lampard, too, whose inexperience has arguably been exposed by some of the division’s cannier teams, a category Millwall most certainly fall in to.

Huddlestone has reminded Derby’s frustrated supporters that not every game is going to be a chance-a-minute thriller, particularly when pragmatic and hard working teams like Millwall come to town.

“It was never going to be like a basketball match, as it has been against some teams,” the former England international added. “It was a case of being patient in our build-up, and that’s the way we’ve tried to play for most of the season.

“The fans are just going to have to get used to that.”
