Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton has been linked with Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
The Sun recently reported that Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton will consider a move to Leeds United in the January transfer window, but the former Cardiff City and Bristol City man’s latest comments to The Burnley Express suggest that he is not thinking of leaving the Premier League club.
Leeds need to sign a new goalkeeper following the return of Jamal Blackman to Chelsea from his loan spell at Elland Road due to injury.
Heaton has been struggling for playing time for the Clarets this season, but the 32-year-old recently started against West Ham United at Turf Moor.
The former Manchester United prospect has given his take on Burnley’s fight for survival in the Premier League, and his comments suggest that he is not looking to leave the Clarets this month.
Heaton told The Burnley Express about Burnley’s survival battle: “It’s going to be a bumpy road. I don’t think it’s going to be straightforward and everything’s going to be cupcakes and rainbows.
“But I think we’re going to need that heart, that desire, and maximum capacity from every single player during that 90 minutes and see where it takes us. We want to be staying in the Premier League.”
Moving on
Heaton – who earns £35,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – will be a good signing for Leeds in the January transfer window and will push Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
However, if the goalkeeper is focused on Burnley, then it may be wise of Leeds to find someone who is willing to leave their club and join the Championship club.
