Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack was one of the most influential players in the Football League last season but could he yet earn a move to Leeds United ?

Bradley Dack swept up at the end of season awards for the the 2015/16 campaign – League One Player of the Year, Gillingham Player of the Year, Players Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and a place in the Football League Team of the Season to boot.

Therefore, when the Daily Mail reported that The Gills’ talisman was interested in making the next step with a January deadline day move to Leeds United, you could forgive Whites fans for stroking their chins and mulling over a potential deal.

The publication claimed that Dack’s agent was attempting to find him a route out of the League One club and the midfielder, who models his game on Frank Lampard according to the Birmingham Mail, had his heart set on signing for Leeds.

Dack is, after all, a natural goal-scoring midfielder, netting 15 goals from deep in 2015/16 – and there is not a single midfield player at Garry Monk’s disposal capable of coming close to such a tally.

On the flipside, however, the 23-year-old has not managed to replicate his influence this season. Dack has scored just five times in 31 League One games this season with Gillingham loitering aimlessly in mid-table.

The attacking midfielder, described by former boss Justin Edinburgh as ‘the catalyst of the team’, according to the Birmingham Mail, has shown recent signs of approaching form again, however, earning a place in the EFL Team of the Week earlier this month after a goal-scoring performance in a 2-1 win at Bury, but his displays throughout the season suggest that he is not quite ready for Championship football.

That strike at Gigg Lane is one of only two he has scored in nine games since the January window closed.

At 23, however, there is plenty of room for Dack to improve. If he rediscovers the consistency to add to his undoubted class, maybe then a move to Elland Road would make sense.
