Nottingham Forest allowed Finnish centre-back Thomas Lam to return to the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle in August.

Nottingham Forest fans might have forgotten all about Thomas Lam.

After two largely unremarkable years at the City Ground which consisted of just 19 Championship appearances, it was little surprise when the Finnish centre-back bid farewell in the summer transfer window, despite impressing in pre-season.

Lam returned to PEC Zwolle on a two-year deal in August, two years after he left the Eredivisie club to try his hand in English football.

But how is he getting on back in Holland? Is he rebuilding his reputation after a spell at Forest that left him collecting splinters on the substitute’s bench? Well yes, he is.

Lam has been one of the star performers in a difficult season for Zwolle and he has been key to their recent resurgence under the former Reading boss Jaap Stam, who was hired to replace the ailing John Van’t Schipp during the winter break.

The 25-year-old has even scored four Eredivisie goals in 18 appearances this season, making this the most prolific league campaign of his career.

So with Lam establishing himself once again as one of the Dutch league’s most accomplished centre-halves, it seems the decision to cut ties with Nottingham Forest last summer was a good one.
