Neal Maupay scored the winner as Brentford beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Griffin Park in Tuesday’s Championship clash, piling pressure on Dean Smith.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has disagreed with Dean Smith’s assessment that Aston Villa were the better side during Tuesday’s Championship clash at Griffin Park, as reported by Football London.
Master took on apprentice in midweek as Smith returned to his former club but Frank, who replaced the 47-year-old in the hotseat in October, emerged victorious at the end of the game, Brentford triumphing 1-0 thanks to a dramatic Neal Maupay winner.
Smith was understandably less than impressed by a third successive away defeat for his Aston Villa side though he claimed that the Midland giants were the better side and created the most clear-cut chances throughout the match.
Frank, however, has made it clear that he does not agree with the man he assisted during his reign at Griffin Park.
“No,” Frank said when asked if he shared Smith’s view. “If you look throughout the game, we totally dominated and won it clear and fair I think.”
Smith enjoyed a superb start to life at Villa Park since arriving to replace Steve Bruce in the autumn but form has dried up dramatically in recent weeks. Aston Villa have won just two of their last 13 games in all competitions and are now well adrift of the play-off places.
