Dan Burn has claimed that Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma could do things ‘nobody else could’ when the duo were at Brighton together, as the Newcastle defender told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
Graham Potter is the new Chelsea manager, after leaving Brighton, and Burn was talking about the Englishman being very precise in what he wanted from his players and how they would have to follow those instructions with common sense.
Someone like Bissouma was a standout story for Potter at the Amex Stadium and it’s a big reason why Spurs secured his talents during the recently-concluded window.
Given what Potter had at his disposal, including finances and losing key players time and time again, he did a remarkable job, hence why he is now Tottenham’s rival.
This appointment will have big bearing on the Champions League race because Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal are three teams that will be right amongst it.
Nonetheless, this is what Burn had to say about Leandro Trossard and Bissouma, and what they were like when he was in Brighton colours.
“He needed people to buy into what he wanted to do,” said Burn. “I think if you looked at the more forward players, like Leandro (Trossard) and players like that.
“They were a different type of player. They could do things on the pitch that nobody else could do.
“I mean Bissouma was another one. He could do things that nobody else could do.”
BISSOUMA TO START AGAINST LEICESTER?
Antonio Conte’s side suffered their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-0 by Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Bissouma didn’t start that game for Spurs, instead, he was an unused substitute in a game to forget for the London club.
But could their new midfielder now start against bottom-of-the-table Leicester on Saturday? Conte has spoken about rotation and it wouldn’t be a surprise if that’s one area he changes.
Spurs fans are yet to see their new signing on a regular basis and this might be his chance to cement his place in the XI on a regular basis.
