Things are going well on the pitch for Arsenal at the moment and the spirit behind the scenes seems pretty strong too.
They say team spirit is an essential component of a successful club but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson may be taking it a little too far, Petr Cech has hinted to the Premier League’s official Twitter account.
Both players arrived at the Emirates in the summer of 2011 as two of the most highly rated youngsters in the Football League, Jenkinson signing for his boyhood club from Charlton while Oxlade-Chamberlain followed in Theo Walcott’s footsteps by swapping the South Coast and Southampton for the Arsenal first-team.
And, according to Cech, their connection has blossomed from a budding friendship into a full-blown bromance in the following years.
Jenkinson and Oxlade-Chamberlain have never quite managed to secure a permanent position in the starting XI under Arsene Wenger, the former embarking upon a two year loan with West Ham while the latter’s progress has been stalled by a series of injuries in recent seasons.
However, they may finally have an opportunity to put their relationship to good use in the coming weeks, with an injury to Hector Bellerin presenting Jenkinson a rare opportunity to stake his claim for the right-back berth ahead of potentially make or break fixtures against Manchester United and PSG after the international break.
Meanwhile, with reports suggesting Alexis Sanchez could be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a muscle problem with Chile, Oxlade-Chamberlain also has a chance to step up to the plate.
