The Championship is still just getting going, but some managers are already feeling the heat.

Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle

Seven games in and the Championship table is starting to take shape, but after previous results which manager needs three points?

Poor performances in midweek have left these three managers needing a victory for different reasons, but can they get the result they so desperately need?

Owen Coyle – Blackburn Rovers

Seven games without a victory is causing serious concern at Ewood Park, and the longer this run goes on the more inevitable it seems to become that they will be playing their football in League One next season.

A last-gasp winner at Elland Road for Leeds United denied Rovers a point on Tuesday, and the need for victories is becoming desperate as they do not want to leave themselves with a huge mountain to climb.

Much was made of the appointment of manager Coyle. Given his history with rivals such as Burnley, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, he did not exactly enjoy the most welcoming of returns back to English football, and the start his side have made has certainly added fuel to the fire.

It is still early days in the season with 39 games left to play, but if the winless streak continues then belief at Ewood will start to disappear.

Roberto Di Matteo – Aston Villa

No win since the second week of the season has certainly put heavy pressure on Aston Villa and Roberto Di Matteo to turn things around as they look for an instant return back to the Premier League.

Given the history and prestige of the club, as well as playing squad that they have at their disposal after spending £50 million this summer, many expected Villa to be up the table with Newcastle United.

However, Di Matteo’s side have failed to hang onto leads they have had in the past two outings, raising more question marks over players. However, it will be up to the former Chelsea man to revitalise the dressing room.

Promotion is the aim, although if the Villa manager wants to stay at Villa Park for the long haul he will have to start registering wins, starting on Saturday at Ipswich Town.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink – Queens Park Rangers

A 6-0 drubbing is bad enough but at home in front of your supporters it would have embarrassed manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United continued their fine form.

It is certainly a work in progress at Loftus Road with a clear-out of players and different structure this season, after the likes of Les Ferdinand were appointed to the board. However, the showing on Tuesday night will certainly disappoint Hasselbaink.

Speculation has circulated on the Dutchman’s future at the club. However, if he can put Tuesday nights horror show to bed, all will be forgotten.
