Everton have been linked with Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney recently.
Ronald Koeman’s comments in the Liverpool Echo that he wants to turn Everton into title contenders next season may shed further light on why he wants to bring Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart to Goodison Park (Mirror).
Koeman stated he believes he only needs one more transfer window to make Everton into a title contenders.
“We know we need one more transfer window to get that strong team that we’d like to have,” he said.
“If we get that for next season then we will really battle with the big ones in the Premier League, I’m really confident of that.”
The comments suggest that Everton have some high profile additions lined up, and Rooney and Hart are believed to be on his wishlist.
Hart would almost certainly be a regular starter, but there are some doubts over whether Rooney would get into the Toffees’ starting line-up at this stage of his career.
However, Koeman’s comments may show exactly why he wants to bring in such high profile players to Everton.
If the Toffees are going to be challenging for the title, they are going to need proven winners and Rooney and Hart fit that bill.
The pair have won the Premier League on multiple occasions, and would bring some vital experience to Everton’s young squad.
The Toffees have some highly exciting prospects, but if they are to become genuine contenders for silverware, they may need some nurturing figures to sign up.
And Koeman may view Hart and Rooney not only as first-team players, but also as mentors, as he continues to build an exciting squad at Goodison Park.
