Premier League outfit West Ham United have reportedly made another attempt to sign Joao Mario from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
West Ham United were suffering from a dearth of creativity halfway through last season, so much so that they were forced to dip into the loan market in January, signing Joao Mario from Inter Milan until the end of the season.
But was the Portuguese international a success at the London Stadium? Or something of a disappointment?
Mario certainly added class and guile, not to mention that superb goal in the 3-0 thrashing of Southampton. But the former Sporting Lisbon playmaker contributed just two goals and an assist in 13 games and did not quite influence matches as much as a player of his quality should.
In truth, the 25-year-old didn’t exactly show why Inter paid a club record £38 million to sign him after Portugal’s victorious Euro 2016 campaign.
So West Ham fans have been split right down the middle by reports from Gianluca Di Marzio claiming that they have made a new bid to sign Mario on loan. The report adds that West Ham’s bid has been rejected with Inter wanting to sell Mario for £26.5 million.
But with Jack Wilshere added to the midfield and creativity on the flanks in the shape of Felipe Anderson and Adriy Yarmolenko, is he even needed?
