Chelsea face Bayern Munich tomorrow in the Champions League Final. Are the footballing public behind them?
Support the English team in Europe, that is the supposed rule, except with club rivalries it doesn’t always work like that.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere came in for stick from his own fans for celebrating Chelsea’s Champions League win against Napoli, and has been relatively quiet on their progress ever since.
Now Chelsea are into the final, with their inspiring second leg battle against Barcelona, with magnificent goals from Ramires and Torres, much of the football public will be behind them.
Tottenham fans on the other hand… Will be keeping everything crossed that Bayern Munich triumph, for a Chelsea win would make their fourth place finish void when it comes to Champions League qualification next year.
Many Arsenal fans have expressed their hope that Chelsea win for this very reason, to deny their North London rivals a spot in next year’s competition.
For Chelsea it is a last shot at glory for many of the players, including Didier Drogba, who seems ready to depart the club after the season.
How affected by injury and suspension will they be? Are Bayern beatable on home turf? Will it be a backs-to-the-wall job like the Nou Camp?
