Millwall received a massive profit when they sold midfielder George Saville to Championship pacesetters Middlesbrough this summer.
After just one year at The Den, Millwall made a massive profit on George Saville.
After a protracted transfer saga, the midfielder was sold to Middlesbrough for £7 million – far more than the £350,000 Millwall paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature as recently as the summer of 2017.
Saville, who has moved to Boro on loan and will make his move permanent in January, was terrific as The Lions’ flirted with the play-offs last season. He scored 10 goals from 44 starts in central midfield.
Though it remains to be seen whether Middlesbrough have overpaid for a player who moved for six-figures a year earlier. Millwall manager Neil Harris certainly believes the offer was far too good to turn down.
“From a business perspective, George had to go,” Harris told the Northern Echo.
“The amount of money offered is ridiculous. From a business perspective, it’s good business by us.
“John (Berylson, Millwall’s owner) bought him for peanuts and sold him for millions and millions.”
Middlesbrough reinforced their squad with a whole host of proven Championship players as Tony Pulis looks to lead them back to the Premier League.
Alongside Saville, Danny Batth, Aden Flint, Paddy McNair, Andy Lonergan and Mo Besic will be playing for the league’s pacesetters this season.
