Leeds United did all they could to tie down Tom Pearce to a new deal but, while he committed his future to the club after prolonged speculation, another highly-rated youngster has left Elland Road via the back door.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, 21-year-old midfielder Madger Gomes has gone, joining FC Sochaux just one year after he arrived from Premier League giants Liverpool.

The former Spain U18 international was tipped for big things at Elland Road, with the YEP stating that Leeds believed he could even force his way into the first-team before the end of the season. Thanks in part to injuries, however, Gomes’ only appearances for the senior side came in the EFL Cup.

And it has been reported that the former Villarreal reserve has now moved to France’s second tier, with Sochaux handing Leeds a small profit for a player they signed on a free 11 months ago.

Unsurprisingly, then, Gomes will not be missed by Leeds fans. In fact, he is just one of a number of players the supporters want to see the back of this summer with the likes of Felix Wiedwald, Vurnon Anita and Hadi Sako surely also on the chopping block.

Gomes’ exit seems like the first of many.
