Clinton N’Jie did not make a single Premier League start for Tottenham Hotspur and lost the Europa League final to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Marseille coach Rudi Garcia would have hoped that Clinton N’Jie was going to change the game when he was brought on at 2-0 down in Wednesday’s Europa League final to Atletico Madrid.

Instead, however, the only goal during the striker’s 35-minute cameo was scored by Atleti captain Gabi as Diego Simeone’s side cruised to the victory in Lyon.

And it is fair to say N’Jie did not make the impact Garcia had hoped for. The speedy forward was booked for a petulant exchange with Lucas Hernandez and then, when his one and only chance did arrive, his effort was worrying the ball boys more than Jan Oblak.

N’Jie skewed a dreadful effort out for a throw-in as Marseille’s hopes dwindled.

And the Tottenham Hotspur fans who tuned in have unsurprisingly come to the conclusion that Mauricio Pochettino made the right call in selling N’Jie last summer.

Spurs paid £8 million to sign the Cameroonian from Lyon in 2015 but, after just eight substitute appearances and no goals in the Premier League, N’Jie returned to France with Marseille on an initial loan deal which became permanent a year later.

Spurs fans have endured some dodgy strikers over the years, but N’Jie certainly deserves a place alongside Roberto Soldado, Vincent Janssen and co on last night’s evidence.
