Blackpool battled to a 1-1 draw with League One title chasers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.

Terry McPhillips has hailed the quality in Sunderland’s squad as his Blackpool side grabbed a deserved point at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night, while speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel.
Sunderland went into the game as the favourites, but were arguably fortunate to escape with a draw against an inspired Blackpool side who went ahead in the first half thanks to a brilliant goal from Armand Gnanduillet.
Jack Ross’s hosts levelled with 15 minutes to go through Jack Baldwin, however, leaving McPhillips frustrated, particularly as his side were denied a penalty late on.
Although the Blackpool boss has admitted that he would have jumped at the chance to take a point before the game kicked off.
“They’re a good side. They probe, they try and get through you and play to the byline. So we’re not expecting to come here and get the lion’s share,” McPhillips told the Tangerines’ YouTube channel.

“They did have some chances but I thought the spirit and effort of (Blackpool) was terrific. We’d have taken a point before the game but we just feel disappointment in the dressing room.”
Sunderland might have nicked a much-needed win at the end, only for their big-money marquee signing Will Grigg to squander a wonderful opportunity. The former Wigan striker missed an open goal after rounding Blackpool goalkeeper Mark Howard.
The result means Sunderland have won two of their last six League One games.
