Rangers farmed out-of-favour goalkeeper Jak Alnwick out to League One Scunthorpe United in the summer transfer window.

Allan McGregor had returned to Ibrox from Hull City a few weeks earlier and wasted no time in establishing himself as Steven Gerrard’s first-choice goalkeeper. With the talented Wes Foderingham also plying his trade in Glasgow, Alnwick needed to bid farewell or spend the next couple of months on the sidelines.
A short-term loan move to Scunthorpe United made sense on paper. And, so far, Alnwick has featured far more regularly at Glanford Park than he ever did at Ibrox, starting 12 League One games.
The former Newcastle United youngster was between the sticks again as Scunthorpe battled back to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Oxford United on Saturday and lauded his teammates on Instagram for their efforts.
But there is one alarming stat that does not reflect at all well for Alnwick. With 37 goals conceded in 17 games, no team in the Football League has been breached as regularly as Scunthorpe, with Alnwick featuring in the majority of those matches.
Alnwick cannot take all of the blame; his performances have been largely impressive with the defenders in front of him struggling.
But this is not a stat that suggests Rangers were wrong to let him go.
