Bundesliga duo Schalke and Hertha Berlin are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool’s Premier League youngster Taiwo Awoniyi.
Taiwo Awoniyi has told Sport Magazine that it would not be the end of the world if he never managed to make his first-team debut for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old striker is one of the most promising young players contracted to the Merseyside giants but his future at Anfield remains up in the air due to work permit issues that are currently preventing him from playing in England.
As a result, Awoniyi is on loan at Belgian top flight outfit Mouscron, for whom he has scored six goals in seven games.
Goal reported this week that there are clubs lining up to sign the Nigerian U23 international in the summer with Schalke, Hertha Berlin and Metz among those keen. Liverpool could be willing to accept around £10 million, it is claimed.
And Awoniyi has now opened up on his future, stressing that his career is not over if Liverpool decide to let him go.
“To be honest, I’ll survive if I do not play Liverpool one day,” said the forward, who arrived in England four years ago from the Imperial Academy in Nigeria.
“I chose Liverpool because my dream is to play in England, and in Liverpool. But if it does not happen, I will still be indebted to Liverpool for discovering me, for discovering my talent.
“It was a really special transfer for me: from Nigeria to go straight to Liverpool. That’s not common. Of course, I’ve been on loan for four years and it’s really difficult.”
Liverpool will be hoping that Awoniyi is handed his first senior international call up in the near future with the striker apparently no closer to obtaining a work permit that would allow him to make his Premier League debut.
Although making a £10 million profit on a player who has never played for the club would not be bad business either.
