Taiwo Awoniyi has never made a Premier League appearance for Liverpool and is on loan at Belgian outfit Mouscron.
Taiwo Awoniyi admits that he would love to finally make his Liverpool debut but accepts his ongoing work permit issues have left him frustrated, while speaking to BBC Sport.
The 21-year-old joined Liverpool in 2015 for a fee of £400,000, as reported by the Guardian, but he is yet to make an appearance for the Merseyside giants.
With a lack of a work permit preventing Awoniyi from forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans, the striker has spent the last few seasons bouncing around Europe in a variety of loan spells. The Nigerian is currently at Mouscron in Belgium, where he has scored seven times in eight Jupiler League games.
The Liverpool Echo reported last week that Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for Awoniyi, although they will demand £12.9 million with Schalke among the interested suitors.
However, Awoniyi has not yet given up hope of a future at Anfield.
“It saddens my heart that it’s been difficult to get a work permit for the past four years,” he told BBC Sport.
“At the end of the season we have to go back to Liverpool to discuss.
“Personally, I chose Liverpool because I would love to play in the English Premier League for Liverpool.
“If God says it will happen then it will, but if not then I can only go on with my life and career.”
Being called up for the Nigeria team would certainly help Awoniyi obtain a work permit. But he was omitted from the recent squads for last month’s international break with the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon.
